Beyond space heating, a gas boiler serves as a tankless water heater for taps and showers. The key to comfort here is precise temperature stability, which relies heavily on the boiler's modulation ratio—the ability to scale its flame output up or down.

During summer, incoming mains water is already warm. If the boiler's minimum output is too high, it will overshoot the target temperature, causing hot water to fluctuate or intermittently stop. A high-performance boiler features a wide modulation range, sometimes reducing its firing rate to as low as 1/10 of its maximum capacity. This allows for smooth, continuous heating.

Furthermore, models equipped with plate-to-plate heat exchangers and intelligent three-way diverter valves respond rapidly to flow changes. When you open a tap, the control board adjusts the gas valve within seconds to maintain a consistent outlet temperature, often within ±1°C. When selecting a boiler, pay less attention to peak power and more to the minimum heat output; this parameter is far more telling of how well the unit will handle your hot water demands across all four seasons.
